Driving to Barton's From Meridian

We're based in Garden City, about 10 miles from downtown Meridian. That usually works out to a 13- to 15-minute drive depending on where in town you're starting from.


The quickest route is west on I-84, connecting to I-184 toward Garden City, then off onto Chinden Boulevard and over to our shop at 405 E 37th Street.


Coming from the Eagle Road or Ten Mile side of Meridian, I-84 W is still your fastest option. Closer to old downtown Meridian or the Fairview area? Chinden Boulevard is a solid alternative that skips the interstate merge altogether.

  • Can I tow my RV without a hitch?

    No. Your RV needs a hitch rated for its actual weight, properly matched to your tow vehicle. Towing without one, or with the wrong one, puts you at real risk of the trailer disconnecting or swaying out of control on the road.

  • What are common trailer hitch problems?

    The usual culprits are corrosion on older hitches, a ball mount that doesn't match the trailer's coupler, worn or damaged wiring connections, and a hitch that was never rated for the load it's carrying. Most of these show up as a rattle, a light that won't work, or sway that you can feel behind the wheel.

  • Can I install a trailer hitch myself?

    For a basic receiver hitch on some vehicles, maybe, if you're comfortable working underneath your vehicle and have the right tools. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck installs are a different story. They involve drilling into the truck bed and getting the weight rating exactly right, so a mistake there isn't something you want to find out about on the highway.

  • Do I need wiring for a trailer hitch?

    Yes, in almost every case. Your RV's brake lights, turn signals, and running lights need to connect to your tow vehicle's electrical system, and it's a legal requirement in most situations. We wire this in as part of the hitch installation so everything works before you leave.

  • What's the difference between a weight-distribution hitch and a standard hitch?

    A standard hitch just connects your trailer to your vehicle. A weight-distribution hitch does that too, but it also spreads the trailer's tongue weight across both axles of your tow vehicle instead of letting it sit on the rear only. That means less sway, better braking, and a more level ride, especially with a heavier travel trailer.
